Check the flow of traffic on motorways and major A roads in England with real-time information from the Highways England National Traffic Control Centre.

Please note: This app provides information specifically about the roads managed by Highways England in England. Local authorities are responsible for managing smaller roads in England, while trunk roads and motorways in Scotland fall under the responsibility of Transport Scotland, and those in Wales are managed by the Welsh Assembly Government.

This app utilizes your current location to provide you with traffic news when and where you need it. Plan your journey, reduce congestion, lower emissions, and arrive safely and with less frustration.

Official data is collected from thousands of vehicle monitors, CCTV cameras, and patrol reports to show the flow of traffic on the Highways England network and keep you updated on traffic incidents throughout the day.

The information includes unplanned incidents such as accidents and congestion, as well as lane closures and other restrictions due to improvement works. Whenever possible, advance notice of essential roadworks is provided.

Key Features:

• Search: Allows users to search for incidents, current roadworks, and future roadworks using four search options: Near You, Region, Motorway, or A-Road. The app also includes an option to view all events on all Highways England roads under 'All of England'.
• Flow: A new feature that provides a view of the traffic flow on any motorway in England. Users can tap a 'view' button to review detailed information about each motorway junction. They can also share information about any event of interest using their phone's social media options.
• CCTV: Allows users to search for and view any CCTV cameras on the Highways England network. A current still image is shown, which can be updated every minute.
• Routes: Users can input a route using location names, addresses, or postcodes. This feature utilizes the Google route finder to identify available routes, which are then displayed on a Google Map. Users can also add notifications for chosen routes.
• Review: The review screen allows users to check the status of a route when they are not driving. They can scroll through a list of events and zoom in or out on the map.
• Drive: Users have the option to drive with or without a planned route. When driving without a planned route, the app will inform them about all Highways England events on the roads nearby. However, when driving with a planned route, the app will only show known events on the Highways England roads along that specific route.

Your phone must be connected to the internet (mobile 3G/4G/GPRS or wireless) to access live traffic information.

In order to use the location-based features of the app, you must have a GPS-enabled phone. Having internet access significantly improves the accuracy and speed of obtaining your location. However, please note that it may take several minutes for your device to determine your position under certain conditions. If you are experiencing persistent location issues, please contact our support team.

Currently, the app does not support Bluetooth speakers or hands-free kits.
